Chris Sanders nears return as voice of Stitch for 'Lilo and Stitch' live-action remake

Fans of Disney’s animated film “Lilo and Stitch” might see the return of some familiar voices in the movie’s upcoming live-action remake.

On Friday, the Hollywood Reporter reported that Chris Sanders, who was the original voice of Stitch in the hit 2002 film, is in final talks to voice the beloved blue alien in the remake.

In addition to voicing Stitch, Sanders also notably wrote and directed “Lilo and Stitch” with Canadian director and producer Dean DeBlois.

Rumors about Sanders come on the heels of casting news about actors Tia Carrere and Amy Hill.

Carrere, who voiced Lilo’s older sister and legal guardian Nani in the animated film, will return in a new role as Mrs. Kekoa, a “practical, by-the-book kind and patient woman who checks in regularly with Nani, whom she can tell is struggling to keep her head above water while taking care of Lilo.”

Meanwhile, Hill, who originally voiced fruit street vendor Mrs. Hasagawa in “Lilo and Stitch,” will play a new character named Tūtū, who is Lilo and Nani’s “kind and hospitable” neighbor.

Disney's upcoming Dean Fleischer-Camp-directed remake has been making headlines recently for its controversial casting decisions.

Several fans took to social media last week to criticize the casting of 22-year-old Hawaiian actor Sydney Elizabeth Agudong as Nana, accusing Disney of whitewashing Nani by casting a light-skinned actor to play a dark-skinned character.

Kahiau Machado, who was initially cast as Nani’s love interest David Kawena, also faced backlash after it was discovered that he had previously posted a racial slur on social media. He has reportedly been replaced by actor Kaipot Dudoit.
