Chris Tyson has been making headlines lately after unexpectedly finding himself in the middle of some internet drama in the wake of announcing a major life decision.
The 26-year-old YouTube star, who goes by any pronouns, is perhaps best known for appearing alongside fellow internet celeb and close friend YouTuber MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson.
Tyson, who had already amassed millions of YouTubers on his own, started to really skyrocket after collaborating with MrBeast on multiple videos and eventually co-hosting his show.
In the process, he gained a whole new audience of devoted fans.
On April 10, Tyson announced he identified as gender non-conforming and said he’s begun hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
“Informed consent HRT saved my and many others’ lives,” Tyson wrote at the time. “The hurdles gnc people have to jump through to get life-saving gender-affirming healthcare in a 1st world country is wild to me. Just let people make informed decisions about their own bodies.”

Why is MrBeast having to defend Chris Tyson?
Unfortunately, not everyone was happy with Tyson’s decision to start HRT.
In one instance, YouTuber SunnyV2 made a “really invasive” video detailing his opinions on Tyson’s personal life, his identity and his connection with MrBeast. In response to the backlash to the video, MrBeast tweeted against the video’s premise and the transphobic response to Tyson’s transition.
“Yeah, this is getting absurd,” MrBeast tweeted. “Chris isn’t my ‘nightmare’ he’s my f***** friend and things are fine. All this transphobia is starting to p*** me off.”
At the same time, there has also been unwarranted criticism of Tyson’s parenting.
Tyson also felt compelled to defend his decision in a tweet that addressed transphobic discussions surrounding his relationship with his 2-year-old son.
