John Legend is reflecting on his wife Chrissy Teigen’s fertility struggles as the couple tries to have another child.

Legend and Teigen welcomed their children Luna, 5, and Miles, 3, with the assistance of IVF treatments. In September 2020, the couple’s son Jack died months into Teigen's pregnancy, and the pair shared their family's grief over the loss on social media.

Earlier this year, Teigen revealed that she was planning on getting pregnant again, and in March shared that she had just finished a round of IVF treatment.

In an interview with People, Legend applauded his wife for being so open about her fertility struggles.

"There are a lot of women and families that have fertility struggles, and I think no one should feel ashamed of needing some help sometimes," he explained. "And I think Chrissy's done a good job of destigmatizing some of these things that so many people go through in silence."

He added, “Whether it's IVF, or other fertility struggles, whether it's losing a pregnancy, I think both of us have felt like it's good for us to share this with other people because other people are going through it too, we don't think they should suffer in silence without knowing there are other people out there who are feeling the same thing.”

In 2021, the Cravings author worked with Resolve: The National Infertility Association on the campaign Fertility Out Loud, which aims to provide resources for those struggling with fertility. She told Self of the venture, "I wanted people to know that there was going to be a place where they could go and find resources, and a community where they’re surrounded by people who have been on the same journey as them. I’m proud to get to talk to the women I’ve gotten to talk to through it, that I’ve gotten to cry with them and all share our stories."

Teigen isn’t the only star to speak out about her fertility struggles. Recently, Anne Hathaway, who struggled to get pregnant with her second child, spoke to The Wall Street Journal Magazine about wanting to open up that conversation.

"There's this tendency to portray getting pregnant, having kids, in one light, as if it's all positive. But I know from my own experience…it's so much more complicated than that," she said. "And when you find out that your pain is shared by others…you just think, I just feel that's helpful information to have, so I'm not isolated in my pain."
