Chrissy Teigen Says She Uses a Retinol Face Peel to Get Glowing, Makeup-Free Skin

Chrissy Teigen regularly shares photos and videos of her family on social media, but one in particular caught the eye of a fan recently. In it, Teigen can be seen lying in bed with her husband, John Legend.

“Had such an incredible 530 dinner at n/naka. Home and makeup off by 8. Don’t sleep on early bird dinner, family!!!” she wrote in the caption. In the video, Teigen and Legend talk about how “good looking” and “perfect” they are.

While the couple is clearly joking, Teigen’s makeup-free skin is visibly glowing. One fan noticed and tweeted the question everyone was thinking: “Wtf do u do to make ur forehead and cheeks shine like that?”

Teigen’s response was simple: She shared a photo of an opened package of the Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic + Retinol Wrinkle Recovery Peel (which you can find at Sephora and Dermstore).

Another fan chimed in to say that, “Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peels are the best too.” Teigen said that she uses those too, but that the Ferulic + Retinol peel in particular is “a little less harsh.”

So, how exactly does the product work? The face pad is a “one-step retinol peel that works to improve the look of wrinkles and restore a firmer appearance,” according to the official product description. Each peel contains a “clinical dose of retinol” that works to exfoliate dead surface cells and accelerate your skin’s natural renewal process to give you smoother, brighter skin.

Retinol “is a form of vitamin A that has been shown to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles,” says Joshua Zeichner, M.D., a New York City–based board-certified dermatologist and director of cosmetic and clinical research in dermatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center. “It is perhaps the best-studied ingredient we have over the counter to fight the signs of skin aging.” In addition to enhancing skin cell turnover, retinol also “stimulates collagen production to strengthen the foundation of the skin,” he says.

As for ferulic acid, Dr. Zeichner says it’s a “potent antioxidant that neutralizes free radical damage to prevent harm to the skin caused by environmental exposures, like ultraviolet light and pollution.”

Teigen isn’t the only one who loves this combo of ingredients. Testers who have tried the peel for themselves rave about the results. “These are amazing ‘glow’ pads. The exfoliating in not major, for you exfoliation junkies out there, but wow does the skin glow the next day,” one Dermstore reviewer wrote.

And while these peels are definitely a splurge, people say the box is totally an investment. “Yes yes, this is an expensive product. BUT IT WORKS! I absolutely love it. My acne has been significantly reduced (I suffer from adult acne), and the tone and texture of my skin have been so great since I started using this product. Worth the high price!”
