Chrissy Teigen Shuts Down Critics After Revealing She Chose The Sex Of Her Baby

They may look like the modern day definition of #relationshipgoals but behind the red carpet gloss, Chrissy Teigen and her husband John Legend have faced their fair share of difficulties.

Having spoken openly about their battle with infertility, the couple decided to undergo IVF treatment and now Chrissy is pregnant with a baby girl. So far, so picture perfect.

Except when the model and Lip Sync Battle presenter revealed she’d chosen her baby’s sex during the fertility treatment process, she found herself on the receiving end of a shedload of criticism. And now she’s hitting back at the shamers.

Earlier this week Chrissy revealed her decision to choose the sex of the baby to People magazine.

“I’ve made this decision,” she said. “Not only am I having a girl, but I picked the girl from her little embryo. I picked her and was like, ‘Let’s put in the girl.’”

Going on to explain her reasons for wanting a daughter she said: “I think I was most excited and allured by the fact that John would be the best father to a little girl. That excited me,” she continued.

“It excited me to see … just the thought of seeing him with a little girl. I think he deserves a little girl. I think he deserves that bond. A boy will come along. … And this girl is going to be so completely lucky to have John as her papa.”

Though many have been more than supportive of the couple’s choice, in true internet style they have also faced much ‘science baby’ criticism. But not one to take things lying down, Chrissy has hit back at the backlash in the best way possible, by shutting down the haters with wit and class.

Taking to Twitter to defend herself Chrissy wrote:

“For the record, I am always happy and open to speak on infertility. The more casual, the better! I don’t mind.”

“My natural blessing from god was infertility.”

“What is that difference though? I’ve already created embryos with a doctor. Only after must it be random?”

“I also picked the embryo with a taste for bacon, a knack for magic and size 7 feet so she can always find shoes.”

Shortly afterwards she returned to Twitter further elaborate on her choices and the IVF gender selection process.

“This is all so interesting,” she tweeted. "I said it so casually because I’m just open. I’m around so many open-minded people and forgot it’s controversial. From reading everything tonight, I think I made a mistake in thinking people understood the process better than they do, which is my fault. We didn’t create a little girl. We had multiple embryos; girls and boys. We simply chose to put in a female first and second. We didn’t 'throw away’ anything and still would love to have more of both in the future. Anyhow, I am not mad at anyone’s beliefs but I don’t really actively seek out people to make them feel bad about their decisions either.“

And in a bid to draw a line under the subject she added.

“Ok done.”

“Please clap”

Nicely handled Chrissy.
