Christian comedian Mutzie to perform at Cornerstone

Jan. 22—Award-winning Christian comedian Mutzie will bring his signature brand of humor to Meridian this Friday night, Jan. 26, during a fundraising event at Cornerstone Church of God to benefit its children's ministry.

Mutzie was recently named Christian Comedian of the Year by the Red Letter Awards, which annually recognize Christian faith-based movies, music, books and comedy acts.

The show is set to start at 7 p.m. at Cornerstone Church, located at 6102 Highway 39 North in Meridian. Doors will open at 6 p.m. No childcare will be provided at the event; everyone must have a ticket to attend.

Tickets for the show are $20 each and are available from any Cornerstone Church member, by messaging Cornerstone Church's Facebook page or at the door on Friday night.

"It will be a fun Friday night of laughter for the entire family," said Sally Ryals, who is helping to promote the event for the church.

Ryals, who has seen Mutzie perform previously, said the comedian will keep the audience laughing with his comic timing and improv skills.

"He has great improv skills. He interacts with the audience. You won't just come and listen" Ryals said. "His comedy is just hilarious."

Twice named New Orleans' Entertainer of the Year, Mutzie performs more than 300 shows annually including on cruise ships, in comedy clubs and churches and at corporate events around the world. He has performed in more than 50 countries, according to his website.

Mutzie has appeared on national television shows more than 100 times, including six seasons of BET's "Comic View," and has won the Funniest Person in Louisiana contest three times, according to the bio.

Ryals said Mutzie is also a Compassion International artist and spokesperson and performs on 65 cruises a year for Carnival Cruise Lines, which is where a fellow church member has seen him perform six times over the years.

The comedy night is being sponsored by Cornerstone Church's Joy Club senior group, Ryals said. Proceeds from the show will go toward the church's children ministry and its numerous programs.

"Cornerstone has a real heart for children," she said.
