ALLIANCEOhio Athletic Conference Player of the Year Christian Parker poured in 22 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead Mount Union past Anderson 73-65 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament.

The Purple Raiders (26-2) held off an Anderson rally after leading by as many as 16 early in the second half. Anderson cut Mount Union's lead to one, but a Darrell Newsom Jr. 3-pointer with 1:30 left helped the Purple Raiders close out the win.

The double-double was Parker's third straight and his seventh of the season.

Collen Gurley scored 20 points and added four steals for Mount Union. Newsom finished with 18 points.

The Purple Raiders will host Lancaster Bible in the second round Saturday at 7:40 p.m.
