In obedience to former president Ronald Reagan’s proclamation, this Sunday is Sanctity of Human Life Sunday. It’s a recognition of the sad anniversary of the Supreme Court decision, Roe v. Wade which took place in 1973.

Since that day 49 years ago, over 60 million babies have been aborted in the United States of America.

No one should be surprised that Christians are against abortion. After all, the Bible explains that Christian faith is about life. Jesus offers eternal life in heaven, and abundant life on this earth. Life is synonymous with Jesus Christ and Christianity.

Further, the Bible explains that life begins at conception. Luke 1:41 records the account of John the Baptist “leaping in his mother’s womb.”

Abortion: Four clues the Supreme Court is heading toward a major shift on Roe v. Wade

Who would lose access: 26 states plan to ban abortion in some form if the Supreme Court OKs Mississippi's ban. Here's who is most at risk.

In the Old Testament, Jeremiah 1:5 explains “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.”

Psalm 139:13 beautifully indicates that God, “hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.”

These passages showcase the personhood of an individual even before they’ve passed through the birth canal. Therefore, for a country to legalize the taking of that pre-born baby’s life is to provide cover for a sinful action that is against the will of God.

I have sincere sympathy for post-abortive females and the grief they face as a result of a decision to abort a child. Many post-abortive women struggle with depression and anxiety even years later. Further, I have sympathy for the various undesirable circumstances that lead a woman to consider an abortion. However, adoption is always a better option than abortion.

The triune God of the Bible is our Creator and Sustainer. He is a God of perfect wrath, but also amazing love.

It’s true that “the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness.” (Romans 1:18)

But it’s also true that “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

The only way for a nation or an individual to avoid God‘s wrath is to embrace His love by seeking forgiveness through His only begotten son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus died a substitutionary death and then three days later conquered death through His resurrection and now Jesus offers sinful humanity eternal life.

This is the good news of the gospel. We’re all sinners who deserve God‘s wrath, but every sinner can embrace God‘s love through Christ.

The Bible says “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.” Acts 16:31
