Christie: RNC resolution noting 'legitimate political discourse' on Jan. 6 a mistake

Former Gov. Chris Christie (R-N.J.) said on Sunday that a Republican National Committee (RNC) resolution that noted "legitimate political discourse" on Jan. 6 was a mistake.

"First of all, they say that part of the reason for the resolution is they want to keep the focus on Joe Biden and the failures of the Democratic administration," Christie told host Martha Raddatz on ABC's "This Week." "Well, how did that work for you? All anybody is talking about this weekend is this resolution rather than talking about the failures of the Biden administration."

Christie also said the RNC has not sensed a "shift" around the country, adding that Americans want to hear about "solutions for 2022."

"And secondly, it's not picking up on what is, I sense, around the country, from traveling around, a shift that is occurring, which is that people are tired of hearing about the 2020 election from Donald Trump and from some who support him," Christie told Raddatz.

"And what they want to hear about is, what are the Republicans' solutions for 2022, for what's the Democrats in Congress and White House are doing to the country and not doing for the country."

The RNC voted on Friday to formally censure GOP Reps. Liz Cheney (Wyo.) and Adam Kinzinger (Ill.) over their criticism of Trump and their participation in the special House committee investigating the Jan.6 insurrection at the Capitol.

The committee said the two lawmakers were engaging in "persecution of ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse."
