Christmas break starts early with all area athletic events Thursday postponed

Another winter storm taking over northeastern South Dakota forced the postponement of all area high school sporting events scheduled for Thursday.

Here are the postponed events, with makeup dates included if known:

Girls Basketball

The list of postponed games include Watertown at Mitchell (Feb. 9), Aberdeen Central at Yankton (Jan. 31), Britton-Hecla at Deuel (Jan. 23), Lisbon (N.D.) at Sisseton, Colman-Egan at Arlington, West Central at Sioux Valley (Feb. 9), Faulkton Area at Highmore-Harrold, Hamlin at Milbank, Wilmot at Estelline-Hendricks (Jan. 30), Canby at Lac qui Parle Valley, Minn. (Jan. 23), Tracy-Milroy Balaton at Dawson-Boyd, Minn. (Feb. 3), Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier at Ellendale, N.D. (Jan. 16) and Oakes at Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter, N.D.

Boys Basketball

Postponements include Groton Area at Aberdeen Roncalli, Arlington at Colman-Egan (Jan. 3), Mitchell at Watertown (Feb. 18), Warner at Florence-Henry (Feb. 10), Yankton at Aberdeen Central (Jan. 31), Britton-Hecla at Deuel (Jan. 23), West Central at Sioux Valley (Feb. 9), Hamlin at Milbank, Oakes at Barnes County North (N.D.), Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier at Ellendale, N.D. (Jan. 6), Murray County Central at Canby, Minn. (Jan. 30) and Dawson-Boyd at Benson, Minn. (Feb. 24).

Wrestling

A high school wrestling triangular at Redfield also was postponed. Webster Area and Groton Area were also slated to compete along with Redfield.
