Christmas cantata returns to Covenant Presbyterian Church

Dec. 8—SHARON — Covenant Presbyterian Church's annual Christmas Cantata will be making its return this weekend.

The cantata, which will feature 58 vocalists and 20 musicians, is free to the public and will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday inside the church, located at 263 E. State St., Sharon.

The cantata's performers include members of Covenant Presbyterian Church's congregation and local residents, under the direction of Penny Kraynak and accompanied by Mary Dillingham.

One song in particular, "Love's Pure Light," promotes a peaceful message and will serve as the cantata's theme, Kraynak said.

Cantata member Patty Norris said the Christmas Cantata was an annual tradition at Covenant Presbyterian Church since at least 1978, with up to 800 people in attendance.

Sunday's performance will mark the church's first Christmas Cantata since 2019, due to the restrictions and health concerns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Norris said this year's participants were excited to perform and see the show return.
