Christmas with a Cop helps 14 children

Dec. 14—Ada Police Officers and a Pontotoc County Sheriff's Deputy partnered with 14 area children at the Annual Christmas with a Cop held Saturday at the Ada Wal-Mart.

Christmas with a Cop is a one-on-one experience designed to have uniformed officers spend a morning with underprivileged children while socializing, shopping, and providing guidance during the holiday season.

Children were identified by local schools as families that could benefit from the experience. The children were allowed to choose items for themselves and/or their families.

These children often do not have the opportunity to buy a toy at the store that they want because the family can only provide the necessities. Christmas with a Cop gives children the opportunity to choose things that they usually can't get while also ensuring that they have the important things.

The goal is to provide the children with a positive, encouraging experience that they will remember forever.

Christmas with a Cop is made possible with 100-percent donations. Without the generosity of the local businesses, this event would not be able to happen. This year over $5,000 was raised.

A huge thank you goes out to all the supporting businesses and organizations: Ada District PTO, Hunter Super Techs, First Methodist Church, Tinker Federal Credit Union, Vision Bank, Superior Sign Shop, Citizen's Bank, Langley's Body Shop, Charlies's Processing, Nobility Door, Cothran Development Strategies, Robert T. Shurtleff Insurance Agency Inc State Farm, The Clinic, Rebellion Martial Arts, Manuel Collision Center, Armada Disaster Solutions, First United Bank, Campbell Accounting Services, Campbell Tire LLC, Ada Nissan, Hilltop Dodge, Simmons Bank, MacHill Construction, McDonald's (AT Management, INC), Sweeney Rex Law Firm, Redland Childers Architects P.C., Bailey and Associates and Walmart.

The goal is to be able to invite more children next year! Anyone can donate at any time throughout the year by going to Vision Bank Ada and telling them that you want to donate to Christmas with a Cop.

Also, a BIG thank you to the officers who volunteered their time to come out and shop with these children. I know their off time is valuable and some of them even worked overnight the night before and stayed up to help make this experience happen for these kiddos.
