Christmas Day car crash in Hopewell kills two people. Police are looking for witnesses.

HOPEWELL — Police are asking for help from anyone who may have witnessed a crash on Oaklawn Boulevard early Christmas morning that left two people dead.

The wreck was reported around 12:20 a.m. at the intersection of Oaklawn Boulevard and Colonial Corner Drive. When crews arrived at the scene they found both cars were off of the roadway at the intersection. One car hit the other perpendicularly and was on top of the second car.

EMS personnel had to cut into the bottom vehicle to pull its two occupants out. They both died at the scene.

Their identifies were not released pending notification of next-of-kin.

The driver and passengers in the other vehicle were treated at the scene, police said. It was not immediately known if charges are pending.

Virginia State Police's accident reconstruction team was called to help authorities figure out what happened.
