Christmas events scheduled in Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes

Here's a list of events taking place in the Lafourche and Terrebonne area. There are five parades across the two parishes and a number of other Christmas events.

Houma

The Houma parade will kick off at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, and includes roughly 35 floats. It will begin at Terrebonne High School and end at the Town Hall on Barrow Street.

The Terrebonne Parish Public Library has a number of events at its Main Branch. On Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. the library will be showing the movie "The Grinch." The following day, Wednesday Dec. 21, at 2 p.m., children will be given material to craft an elf trap. Then on Thursday, Dec. 22, at 2 p.m., the library will show "Polar Express" with free hot chocolate and cookies, and on Dec. 29, the library will host a New Year's Eve party from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. with arts and crafts and a balloon drop

Thibodaux

The Thibodaux Parade will start at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Nicholls State University's stadium. The parade currently has five floats, and 15 to 20 trailers and trucks.

Starting Dec. 1, Peltier Park will have Christmas in the park. The trees, and spaces in the park will be decorated by schools, churches, organizations, businesses and other groups. Lights will be turned on from 6 until 9 p.m.

Lockport

The Lockport Parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 2, on Church Street. It includes 10 floats and approximately 60 other pieces such as trucks, trailers and jeeps.

The Lockport Community Center will host a Movie Night Dec. 1, where kids receive a free gift from Santa. There will also be free ornament decorations and a viewing of the movie "Elf" at 7:30 p.m. The event begins at 6 p.m., and Santa will arrive at 6:30 p.m.

Golden Meadow

Golden Meadow will be having a daylong event Dec. 9, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church, 723 North Bayou Dr. There will be a craft show beginning at 10 a.m., followed by a gumbo cook off at 10:30 a.m. through 2 p.m.

At 3 p.m. there will be a road parade including about 35 golf carts and jeeps. The parade will roll up LA 1, eventually crossing over to the four-lane and returning to the church. Mass will be at 5 p.m., followed by a boat parade at 6:30 p.m.

The boat parade will head North to West 22nd-23rd Street, and return.

Bayou Black

Winter Wonderland Dance: Hosted by Justin Patterson, also known as Deejay Juice, the dance is 6 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 22 at the Bayou Black Recreation Center, 3688 Southdown Mandalay Rd.

The dance is open to all children 13 and younger, and chaperones are welcome. Admission is $5, and there will be concessions and a giveaway.
