Christmas parades and holiday fun: 9 things to do this weekend in Terrebonne, Lafourche

This weekend will help you get into the winter holiday spirit with Christmas parades, Santa visits, local markets, a concert and an opportunity to help give back to the community.

Check out these nine things to do this weekend in Terrebonne and Lafourche:

Houma Christmas Parade

The annual Christmas parade will start at 6 p.m. Saturday at Terrebonne High and roll down Main Street. From there, it will turn right on Barrow and end at the corner of School Street.

A tree-lighting ceremony is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. in the Courthouse Square, Main and Church streets.

Thibodaux Christmas Parade

The parade starts at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Nicholls State University, on the corner of Audubon Avenue and Afton Drive. It turns left onto Menard Street, left onto Canal Boulevard and left onto 7th Street, ending at Peltier Park. After the parade, head to the park for a Christmas festival and photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Lockport's annual Christmas Parade begins at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Seventh Street and church streets. It heads down Seventh, Ethel, Pine, Elizabeth, Oak, Catherine, Second and Vacherie streets, ending at 10th and Church.

After the parade, visit the Lockport Community Center, 5610 La. 1, for a movie night with Papa Noel and friends.

Christmas concert

The South Louisiana Community Orchestra will present “A Christmas Celebration” concert Sunday.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger.

When: 3 p.m. Sunday.

Where: First United Methodist Church in Houma, 6109 La. 311.

Reindeer Run 5K

Girls on the Run Bayou Region will host a Christmas-themed 5K family fun run Sunday.

Entry fees are $30 on race day. Stay after the race to enjoy a celebration including food, music, face painting and other activities.

When: Registration starts at 11 a.m., race at 1 p.m.

Where: Bayou Country Sports Park, 4374 La. 311 in Houma.

Breakfast with Santa

The Kiwanis Club of Houma is hosting its 31st Breakfast with Santa this Saturday.

Purchase breakfast in advance for $7 or pay $8 at the door. For advance tickets, call George Robichaux at 860-2100, email kiwanisofhouma@gmail.com or visit facebook.com/houmakiwanis.

Pictures with Santa will be available for $5 per family.

When: 7-11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Where: Vandebilt High School Cafeteria, Hollywood Road and Tunnel Boulevard.

Coats for Kids

For the 22nd year, the Kiwanis Club of Houma is collecting gently used coats and blankets for its Coats for Kids drive.

The collected items will be distributed to Terrebonne Parish schools, the Salvation Army and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

When: Through Dec. 9.

Where: Drop boxes at all South Louisiana Bank locations.

Reindeer Rowe

The Thibodaux Service League will host an indoor Christmas market Saturday.

General admission tickets are $10 and can be purchased online at bit.ly/3ikMoBr or at the door.

VIP tickets are $20 and must be purchased online and before the event. The VIP shopping experience includes early entrance, an extra hour of shopping and a swag bag.

When: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday for general admission and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for VIP.

Where: Warren J. Harang Jr. Municipal Auditorium, 310 North Canal Blvd. in Thibodaux.

Market at the Marina

Holiday shopping can also be found at the downtown Houma Marina this Saturday.

The outdoor market is held on the first Saturday of every month, sponsored by Terrebonne General Health System and the Houma Downtown Development Committee.

This month’s market will feature roughly 80 vendors, kids' games and activities and live music. Santa will visit the market from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

When: 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Where: Downtown Houma Marina, 8226 Park Ave.
