Christmas toy drive underway in Superior

Nov. 28—SUPERIOR — The Superior Fire Department's annual toy drive is underway.

Donations of new, unwrapped toys and items for children and teens are being collected at the following locations in Superior: Dollar General, Cenovus Energy, Sherwin Williams, Superior-Douglas County Family YMCA, Walgreens, Angie's Closet, Artistic Florals by Leslie, Empower Superior Nutrition, Northwood Technical College, Superior Fire Department Headquarters and Menards.

Cash donations are also welcome and can be dropped off at the

Superior Fire Department

or mailed to 3326 Tower Ave. Make checks payable to SFD Toys for Tots. The funds will be used to purchase gifts to fulfill wish lists.

Sign ups for the Superior Fire Department's annual toy distribution are being taken through Dec. 9 at the Salvation Army, 916 Hughitt Ave., from 10 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, or by appointment. Call 715-394-7001 to set up an appointment.

Participants must be residents of Douglas County to be eligible. A photo ID, an official piece of mail within 30 days with their address on it and proof of each child in the person's custody are required. Birth certificates, school records and medical insurance are accepted. Visit the

Christmas food boxes will be distributed from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 16 at the Salvation Army, 916 Hughitt Ave. Anyone with a client identification card can pick up a box with photo identification. No advance registration is required. Those without a client card, however, will need to fill out a form to be added to the nonprofit's database in order to get one. This can be done any day up to Dec. 16.

To get a client identification card requires the same information as the Toys for Tots program. Participants must be a resident of Douglas County and have the following:

* Government-issued photo ID.

* Current piece of mail.

* Names of people in the household.
