Christopher Nolan joins moviegoers as LA cinemas reopen

The Oscar-nominated director of films such as The Dark Night and Inception gathered along with throngs of cinemagoers at an AMC cinema in Burbank, north of Los Angeles on what was the first day of reopening after coronavirus restrictions were eased in Los Angeles county.

Nolan has recently been an advocate for the reopening of cinemas, saying he believes that movie going would bounce back in the long term once coronavirus vaccines were widely available and movie theaters that have been shuttered around the world could reopen.

In December he also slammed plans by Warner Bros to release its 2021 films in theaters and on its streaming service HBO Max on the same day, saying the studio should have consulted filmmakers first.

And the director might have a point, judging by the crowds of cinemagoers that turned out on Monday in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles County cinemas, museums, restaurants and gyms were given the greenlight to open to indoor customers at a 25 percent capacity and with social distancing measures beginning at 12:01 a.m. local time on Monday.
