Christ's Home in Warminster to build 30 senior apartments, movie theater in expansion

Christ’s Home in Warminster broke ground this month on a major $24 million expansion project which will include construction of new independent living apartments to open in spring 2024.

"The expansion project will include many opportunities and amenities for new independent living residents to grow and thrive," said Christ's Home President and CEO John Bryant.

The project will include construction of 30 apartments including some two-bedroom units and some two-bedroom units with a den to be added to the community's 24 apartments and more than 180 cottages on the campus off Street and Norristown roads. Also, there will be a large, two-story atrium lobby with a fireplace and seating, a small movie theater, and a community room. The current dining facility will be enlarged to include fine dining. Outside of the dining area will be a large outdoor patio with many features.

The independent living apartments are open to seniors age 62 and older, who pay an entrance fee and then monthly rental in the continuing care complex that also offers memory care and personal and skilled nursing care arrangements. Residents of the new units will be able to pick decor choices for their apartments.

Smyth Hall also will be expanded to provide seating for approximately 180 people. In addition, a new physicians’ office suite will be added, where physicians and specialists associated with Doylestown Hospital will treat residents as well as local patients, Bryant said.

Hosting the groundbreaking ceremony were Christ’s Home leadership including Bryant, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Jim McGovern; Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Dee Bartolanzo and Board Member Bernie Lajeunesse.

"We are excited to enhance our services to include these new apartments and amenities," McGovern said.

Christ’s Home was founded in 1903 by Dr. Albert Oetinger and Katharine Krausslach as a faith-based non-denominational organization caring for children in Philadelphia. In 1923 Christ’s Home opened a modest retirement community on St. Stephens Farm in Warminster to meet the needs of senior adults in the area. Today, Christ’s Home, now located in Warminster and Paradise, Lancaster County.
