Michaels replaces Jeannine Marks, the executive director for the last eight years, who announced her retirement in March. Michaels has worked with Marks, who became a consultant to Stewart's this month, during a transition period.

Michaels most recently was senior director of operations for Pure Healthcare. That, "combined with her prior 18 years of experience in healthcare and social work and her passion for palliative care will position her well to further the mission of Stewart’s Caring Place." said Board President Brenda Spear.

Michaels said she loves "the practice of accompanying and supporting those on their journeys with cancer” and that she is most excited about “the depth of the service offerings at Stewart’s, how much it's grown over the last few years, and getting the word out to more places so not one person with cancer struggles through that journey hopeless, without support or otherwise alone.”
