Christyn Williams out Wednesday vs. St. John’s with ankle injury

Junior Christyn Williams missed the first game of her UConn career Wednesday night against St. John’s with an ankle injury.

The guard, who is the No. 3 Huskies’ second-leading scorer at 16.8 points per game, appeared on the sideline of the team’s pregame warmups, cheering her teammates on.

UConn did not provide any additional details about her injury.

Freshman Nika Muhl started in place of Williams, while classmate Aaliyah Edwards cracked the starting lineup over sophomore Aubrey Griffin. It is both Muhl’s and Edwards’ second career starts.

UConn has had a bad stroke of injury luck this season. Muhl missed three games before the holidays with a foot issue, Edwards and Paige Bueckers both missed a single game with ankle sprains and Anna Makurat is out indefinitely with a lower leg issue.
