In years past, Onalaska senior forward Brooklyn Sandridge knew she had several standouts with years of varsity experience behind her. Her 23 goals in 2021 remain a program record for the Onalaska girls soccer program.

Graduating a large class of seniors that featured players like Alex Cleveland-Barrera and Callie Lawrence, Sandridge did not have that luxury this season, though it didn't slow her down too much.

"I was the only forward, so if anyone was going to score, it had to be me," Sandridge said. "I did look to my wings and my back but when it came to scoring goals that's the forwards job, typically. When there's only one, if you want to win that's how you do it. That was the inspiration.

"Sometimes it was 1-v-1's and that's how you had to win. We had to focus on defense a lot this year, and sometimes I'd have to go 1-v-4 and that's how you win."

Pouring in 18 goals this season — 10 more than any other Onalaska player — to bring her career scoring total to 70 goals over four years, Sandridge was the definition of scoring production over her high school career.

And it only got harder to score as she got older.

Though Sandridge was known for beating the occasional double-team for scores over the years, with teams circling her on their gameplans every night, she had to adjust to score for her team.

"It felt really good," Sandridge said of all the defensive attention. "But at the same time I was looking for my options on the wings, I'd watch film and see I had five girls open if they came up. I have so many drops because all the defenders are on me, we made it a strategy to drop it, and have me run. I can't dribble past four defenders but if I can beat them on the run that's how we were going to do it."

Sandridge's 18 goals and defensive attention helped the Loggers to another state berth this season with just one senior — Sandridge — on the roster, and several eighth-graders in the lineup.

Her 70 goal total helped Onalaska to the state tournament in every year it was held in 2019, 2021, and 2022, including a fourth-place finish in 2019 as a freshman.

Along with her stellar season on the pitch, Sandridge was also named a national finalist for the Heisman scholarship, awarded to high school athletes that excel both in the classroom and in sports, and are active figures in their community.

Sandridge is one of just 12 finalists nationally out of over 11,000 applicants.

"It means a lot," Sandridge said of the All-Area MVP honor. "It reflects that it doesn't really matter how your season ends, if you did the best you could with the resources you had, it shows. The right people who know what they're watching see that, even if it doesn't show up on the scoreboard."

Gruginsky was the lone consistent scoring threat for the Tigers this season, notching a team-high eight goals to go along with three assists. She also picked up a first team all-league honor.

Ava Jones, Tumwater

Hayden Kaut, Napavine

The Central 2B League North Offensive MVP, the freshman Kaut scored 18 goals and dished out seven assists over the course of the season, helping Napavine to the district semifinals.

Kami Oliviera, Tenino

The Beavers' lone true striker, Oliviera had just four goals and six assists, but pushed Tenino's offense when it needed to and picked up a first team All-Evergreen honor for her play.

Destiny Roller, Adna

The head of the Pirates' attack for much of the season, Roller picked up a bigger role heading into 2022 and capitalized, scoring 14 goals and logging two assists en route to a first team All-C2BL North honor.

Emalyn Shaffer, Tumwater

The 2A Evergreen's MVP had an area-high 25 goals to go along with seven assists, including two key goals during the Thunderbirds' 3rd-place run at state, Tumwater's highest finish as a girls soccer program ever. Shaffer averaged just about 1.3 goals per contest.

Cameron Sheets, W.F. West

W.F. West's do-it-all forward and the 2A Evergreen Conference's Offensive Player of the Year, Cameron Sheets put 19 goals through the back of the net and added a balanced 17 assists, contributing 36 of the Bearcats' 47 total goals. The star senior also logged three consecutive hat tricks during the season.

Maddie Shields, W.F. West

Anchoring a Bearcat defense that held opponents to just 1.5 goals per game in league play, Shields was the leader of a stout W.F. West defense. Shields also added two goals and three assists, and was named first team all-league.

Trinity Tafoya, Tenino

Tafoya averaged six saves per game with five shutouts, and had a school record 15 saves in a district playoff loss to Seton Catholic last season, earning second team All-Evergreen.
