Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top such mobile eateries in Chula Vista, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of the best spots to fill the bill.
1. Tortas Ahogadas El Gallito
Topping the list is Tortas Ahogadas El Gallito. Located at 975 Broadway (between Arizona and Moss streets) in Southwest, it's the highest-rated budget-friendly food truck in Chula Vista, boasting 4.5 stars out of 153 reviews on Yelp.
Curious to know more? The eatery's signature item is its torta ahogada, which was featured on the show "Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern." The menu also features pork tostadas covered with El Gallito's specialty sauce.
2. King Kream Ice Cream
Next up is Southwest's King Kream Ice Cream, at 767 Anita St. (between Frontage Road and Industrial Boulevard). With five stars out of 48 reviews on Yelp, it has proven to be a local favorite for those looking for an affordable option.
The mobile soft-serve ice cream shop specializes in banana splits, milkshakes and ice cream cones, according to its Yelp page.
3. Mar y Tierra
Northwest's Mar y Tierra, at 15 N. Fourth Ave. (at C Street), is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the budget-friendly Mexican food truck and caterer 4.5 stars out of 47 reviews.
In keeping with its name, which translates to sea and land, the restaurant's burritos, tacos and tostadas come in meat and seafood varieties.
4. El Ranchero
Last but not least is El Ranchero, a food truck that offers tacos and more in Lynwood Hills. It's another low-priced go-to, with four stars out of 65 Yelp reviews. Head over to 495 Telegraph Canyon Road to see for yourself.
