Church, Lewis County partner for park cleanup and barbecue potluck in memory of 9/11 victims

Sep. 1—The Centralia Washington Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in partnership with the Lewis County Parks and Recreation department, will be hosting a community service event focused on cleaning up Rose Park in Chehalis on Saturday, Sept. 9.

Approximately 200 community volunteers and county employees are planning on participating in the cleanup event, according to a news release, which states the event is being held in memory of those lost during the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Anyone interested in joining the cleanup effort is welcome.

Cleanup will start at 9 a.m. and run until noon, with the focus on cleaning park trails, removing fallen trees, refurbishing fitness equipment and sanding picnic tables.

Those planning on participating are asked to bring heavy gardening gloves, eye and ear protection and landscaping tools, including rakes, weed whackers, leaf blowers, pruning tools and sanders if possible.

Additionally, organizers are also asking people to bring a side dish or dessert to share, as once the cleanup is complete, a barbecue potluck will be available from noon to 2 p.m.

Rose Park is located at 263 Penning Road in Chehalis.
