Faith Methodist joins new Global Methodist Church

DOVER ‒ The Dover Faith congregation has voted to join the theologically conservative Global Methodist Church and separate from the United Methodist Church. It officially joined the new denomination on July 1. The church is at 420 N. Wooster Ave. Worship time is 10:30 a.m. Sundays.

Dover Faith has a long history in the community, with its roots going back to the Brandywine Church in 1809, which was the forerunner of the Dover Evangelical United Brethren Church. The congregation moved to Dover in 1918 with the purchase of the German Methodist Episcopal Church at Slingluff Avenue and Cross Street. It incorporated on May 17, 1919, as the United Brethren in Christ Church. In 1920, the congregation voted to relocate and purchased the current property. In 1968, the Evangelical United Brethren Church merged with the United Methodist Church.

The congregation offers free lunch and clothes closet on the first and third Saturday of each month.
