HILLSDALE — The Hillsdale community is ready to give back.

A community Thanksgiving service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at Hillsdale Free Methodist Church.

The service is free and open for the public to attend and is hosted by Hillsdale Area Ministerial Association.

“As different churches, we all participate in the chance to come together under one big banner, under the idea that we are a thankful community and we want to thank the Lord for all that He has done in the Hillsdale area,” said Lucas Miller, president of HAMA.

The Thanksgiving service was first organized in the early-1990s, according to Miller.

Each year, the service is at a different church. It features music, a speaker and Bible reading. All of this is provided by various local churches and pastors.

“It is really just an opportunity to gather with other Christians from other denominations and the one thing I think all Christians can agree on is that we ought to be grateful,” said Miller. “It is a pretty simple service.”

HAMA is made up of a group of local Hillsdale pastors from 25 different local churches who “work together to advance the mission of Jesus in and around Hillsdale,” a statement from the organization said.

An offering will also be taken up at the service to benefit the services that HAMA provides to local ministries.

“That money is there for when ministries come to us because they need something or there is a need someplace,” said Miller.

At services in the past, members from more than 15 local churches were often present and Miller anticipates a similar turnout this year.

Miller encourages anyone and everyone from the community to attend.

“This Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to demonstrate that we all can be united as Christians and show that we are thankful to God for all that He has given to us,” said Miller. “Especially here at Hillsdale.”
