Burger King will test its new "fries, your way" menu offerings in Columbus starting next week.

The menu items, as part of the Miami-based burger chain's new "snacking platform," is part of an ongoing trend by fast-food chains to market smaller meals in between or in addition to traditional meals.

The menu offerings include Burger King's chicken fries, already a fan favorite; new churro fries, fried strips of pastry dough tossed in cinnamon sugar and swerved warm; and another new item, mozzarella fries, fry-shaped sticks served with sides of marinara sauce. Each item will be available in four, eight or 12-piece orders at participating restaurants in Columbus.

The items will only be available in-store, not for delivery online or on third-party apps.

Starting Feb. 13, Columbus residents will get to try the new menu items and will be a determining factor on whether the platform will launch in other cities.

Columbus, which has long been considered a test market city, was chosen because of its size and diversity, said the company.

"Columbus is ideal for a local market test of this nature due to its ... general reflection of the larger, nationwide Burger King guest community," said a Burger King spokesperson. "It's been a popular region for tests, and we look forward to hearing how our guests in Columbus respond to the test as their feedback will help determine whether we bring Fries Your Way to restaurants nationwide."

The menu items will be available through mid-May.
