CIF-SS girls basketball roundup: Ventura, Buena win playoff openers
Rivals Ventura and Buena were two of six area girls basketball teams to win first-round games in the CIF-Southern Section playoffs on Thursday night.
Skyler Knight finished with 18 points, seven rebounds and three steals, Kailee Staniland had 16 points, seven assists, four steals and three rebounds, and Jessie Sebek had four points, nine rebounds and six assists as host Ventura rolled to a 60-16 rout of La Serna in a Division 2AA first-round game.
The Cougars will play at San Clemente in a second-round game Saturday.

Skye Thomas poured in 26 points and grabbed four rebounds, Riannah Lopez finished with 21 points, eight rebounds and two steals, and freshman Karisma Lewis had 16 points, seven rebounds and three steals to lead Buena to a 70-40 victory over host Santiago-Garden Grove in a Division 3A first-round game.
The Bulldogs will play at top-seeded Rancho Christian in a second-round game Saturday.
DIVISION 1
Keilani Peralta hit six 3-pointers to set a single-season program record and finished with 20 points, Christa Contreras had 10 points and seven rebounds, and Makenna Phelan and Daniel Rocha each scored five points for Camarillo in its 71-41 loss visiting Harvard-Westlake in a Division 1 first-round game.
Peralta ended the season with 83 3-pointers, breaking Alyssa Marin's Camarillo record of 81 set in the 2019-20 season.

DIVISION 2AA
Mimi Moon had 14 points, four rebounds and two steals, Haven Ramirez finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and two blocks, and Mikayla Oliver had 10 points and six rebounds for Pacifica in its 53-42 loss to host Santa Monica in a Division 2AA first-round game.
DIVISION 2A
Maddy Tauro scored 21 points to lead Calabasas to a 50-41 win over host Cajon 50-41 in a Division 2A first-round game Thursday. The Coyotes will play at top-seeded Mark Keppel in a second-round game Saturday.
DIVISION 3AA
Agoura lost 49-38 to Louisville in a Division 3AA first-round game Thursday.
DIVISION 4AA
Sophomore Frances Ellis scored 12 points for Simi Valley in its 58-29 loss to host Knight in a Division 4AA first-round game Thursday.
Foothill Tech lost to visiting Glendale 50-44 in a Division 4AA first-round game Thursday.
DIVISION 4A
Miahnna Galvan finished with 10 points, five steals and two assists, Maddi Stonebraker had six points, 12 rebounds and two blocks, and Alyse Ramirez added four points, four rebounds and three steals for Santa Paula in its 42-28 loss to visiting Pasadena Poly in a Division 4A first-round game.
Newbury Park Adventist lost to visiting Crossroads 54-18 in a Division 4A first-round game.
DIVISION 5AA
Nordhoff defeated visiting Magnolia 57-45 in a Division 5AA first-round game. The Rangers will host Ramona, a 59-21 winner over Thacher, in a second-round game Saturday.
Valeria Pacheco had five points, Isabella Cerda, Paloma Guzman, Jessica Perez and Sophia Navarro each had four points, and LeShelle Lee, Jocelyn Martinez and Giovanna Martinez each had two points for Channel Islands in its 46-27 loss to third-seeded Gahr in a Division 5AA first-round game Wednesday night.
DIVISION 5A
Lindsay Gould hit four 3-pointers and finished with 12 points, Joely Chadwick had 14 points, and Ella Broms, Disha Gosh, Jaelah Brown and Vicky Du each had six points as Oak Park defeated visiting Lutheran-La Verne 58-18 in a Division 5A first-round game.
The Coastal Canyon League champion Eagles will host Coastal Christian in a second-round game Saturday.
