CIF-SS playoffs: Palm Desert softball, Cathedral City baseball making major moves

It's win-or-go-home time for the spring high school sports of baseball, softball and tennis and after one full week of the postseason, we've had some winners and we've had some go-homers.

Softball

Palm Desert 5, Santa Rosa Academy 1: The Aztecs went on the road to Mount San Jacinto College on Thursday and came home with a first-round win.

Madysyn Lopez was the star of the day for the Aztecs, pitching a complete game and only giving up one unearned run. Lopez also had three hits and three RBIs.

Brooklyn Dowdle also had three hits and knocked in a run. Aubrey Martinez had two hits, two runs and an RBI, while Mary Jane Limon and Sidney Sherrod each had a triple.

The Aztecs are now 17-8 and earned a home game Tuesday where they will face Yorba Linda, the No. 2 seed in Division 4. Game time is still to be determined.

The Lions scored five runs in the fifth and were clinging to a 6-5 lead when they added four huge insurance runs in the top of the seventh to make for an easy finish.

The Lions ripped 15 hits in the game and it was the bottom of the order doing the damage as the No. 6, 7 and 8 hitters -- Adrian Rodriguez, Isaiah Reyes and Isaac Rodas -- all had three hits. Rodriguez and Reyes each scored two runs and Rodas knocked in two.
