These Cincinnati-area attractions have been named the 'Best of the Midwest'

Is Cincinnati the best of the Midwest? We certainly think so.

In the magazine Midwest Living's annual Best of the Midwest awards, which celebrate the region's top spots in food, travel, lifestyle and wellness, three attractions in Greater Cincinnati were recognized and awarded.

Under the culture category, the American Sign Museum in Camp Washington was named the best quirky museum.

"It's a trip through 100 years of retail signage history, from early pre-electric signs adorned in gold leaf, through decades of glowing neon and today's plastic-face versions," Midwest Living wrote about the American Sign Museum.

Smale Riverfront Park on the banks of the Ohio River in Cincinnati was named the best city park under the travel category, with Midwest Living writing that the park is a "downtown gathering space built as a series of terraces with the environment in mind."

Also mentioned under the travel category: Kings Island in Mason, named the best family attraction, noting the iconic The Beast rollercoaster.

"During the park's 50th anniversary last year, The Beast's first drop became a few degrees steeper, and the Cincinnati- area wonderland continues to expand with Adventure Port, a colorful realm of dizzying rides and Mexican dining, opening in the shadow of the park's replica Eiffel Tower this year," Midwest Living wrote.

Cincinnati was not the only Ohio city to receive praise. The Cleveland Museum of Art received best art center and the South Wind Motel in Columbus was named best new hotel.
