It'll be raining stuffed cats and dogs as the Cincinnati Cyclones take on the Wheeling Nailers Saturday night at the Heritage Bank Arena.

This will be the 13th season the Cyclones have partnered with the Cincinnati Police Department for the annual Teddy Bear Toss, an event where teams and fans donate stuffed animals to local police and fire departments.

Cincinnati police officers use the donated items to create positive interactions with children in the community.

"We use them as a way to make a positive interaction with the children of our community," Cincinnati police Sgt. Timothy Fritz told The Enquirer last season. "We try to do things to put us in a better light with the kids, so they understand not every contact you have with the police has to be a negative experience."

Like last year, the Teddy Bear Toss is part of the Throwback Weekend, which includes reduced ticket prices and two-dollar food and beverages. According to Andrew Mossbrooks, the Cyclones' director of public relations and broadcasting, fans will be encouraged to throw teddy bears and other stuffed animals onto the ice after the home team scores their first goal.

Mossbrooks said the teams have collected tens of thousands of stuffed animals over the years during the annual event. In 2020, the Cyclones had more than 11,000 donations, The Enquirer reported.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
