Cincinnati Museum Center unveils new exhibit opening Friday: 'Made in Cincinnati'

Friday, a new exhibit will open at the Cincinnati Museum Center, focused on the past, present and future of the city's innovation.

According to a release, the "Made in Cincinnati" exhibit will showcase stories of the individuals and corporations that have transformed homes, industries and markets, with a focus on inventors and innovators who have previously been misplaced by history.

Inventors in the exhibit include Henry Boyd, a formerly enslaved man who patented technology and was known for his handcrafted furniture, including a revolutionary new design for a bed frame, and Cora Dow, who introduced Cincinnati's first pharmacy.

Also on display are unglazed and finished mugs, pitchers and tiles from Rookwood Pottery. Visitors can pick a glaze to decorate the pieces in a virtual glazing salon.

There are also stories about Kroger, Procter & Gamble and King Records as well as goetta and Crosley radios.

“Our city has an incredible history of doing things differently, doing things better, making things better,” Elizabeth Pierce, president and CEO of Cincinnati Museum Center said in a release. “Made in Cincinnati explores the entrepreneurial spirit that courses through our DNA in a way that instills community pride and individual inspiration.”
