Cincinnati Reds homestand opener vs. Pittsburgh Pirates rained out

The Cincinnati Reds, on a 10-game losing streak, will have to wait to play their series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Friday's game was postponed because of rain. It will be rescheduled as a part of a split doubleheader on July 7 with one game at 2:10 p.m. and another game at 7:10 p.m.

All doubleheaders this season are nine-inning games. MLB had seven-inning doubleheaders during the last two seasons as a part of COVID-19 protocols.

The Reds and Pirates were already scheduled to play a day-night doubleheader at GABP on Saturday, a make-up game because the first week of the season was postponed due to the lockout. It's the Reds' first scheduled doubleheader since Sept. 17, 1987 at Dodger Stadium. The two teams will play another doubleheader at GABP on Aug. 13.

Connor Overton, Friday's scheduled starter, will be the Reds' starting pitcher for Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader. Robert Dugger, recently claimed off waivers from Tampa Bay, will start Game 2.

Rookie left-hander Nick Lodolo was previously scheduled to start Game 1 on Saturday, missing a start on the 10-day Injured List because of a back strain, but he is no longer scheduled to pitch Saturday.

When the Reds and Pirates play each other, it'll be the first time the Reds have played a team with a record below .500 since the second game of the season because they beat Atlanta on Opening Day.
