For the first time in the 2022 season, the Cincinnati Reds and the Chicago Cubs will meet in a series that begins on May 23 and finishes on May 26 in Great American Ballpark.

The Reds were originally scheduled to play the Cubs on Opening Day in Cincinnati but the MLB lockout postponed the first two series of the season, the second series being against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Reds beat the Atlanta Braves on the road to start the season.

The Reds have already played one scheduled double-header to make up one of the games against the Pirates, but this four-game series with the Cubs was originally on the 2022 schedule. The Reds will make up the April series with the Cubs in October, the final series of the season.

Will the Reds face Cubs pitcher Wade Miley, who once had a Reds fan club?

The Reds placed pitcher Wade Miley on waivers following the 2021 season and the Chicago Cubs picked him up.

Miley missed the first month of the season before returning for Chicago this month. He has started three game and pitching in 16 innings. He is 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA.

Miley, though, made one of those starts on May 22 against another one of his former teams, the Arizona Diamondbacks. He pitched six innings and allowed three runs on six hits.

He will not pitch against the Reds at Great American Ballpark.

Miley pitched a no-hitter last season for the Reds and following his second season with the club he had a devoted fan section for him when he started at Great American Ballpark. Miley went 12-7 for the Reds with a 3.37 ERA in 28 starts. He struggled at the end of the season, but Miley said wanted to return to the Reds in 2022.

Who is pitching for the Reds and Cubs in the first series this week?

Here are the scheduled starters for the Reds and Cubs, according Bobby Nightengale:

What are Amir Garrett and Javy Baez doing these days?

The Reds and Cubs series for the last few years were marked by intense matchups between left-handed Reds reliever Amir Garrett and former Cubs shortstop Javier Baez. The Cubs traded Baez at the deadline last season and his first games as a New York Met were against, of course the Reds.

They seemingly don't like each other.

The Reds traded Garrett to the Kansas City Royals in exchange for Mike Minor in April. Minor has yet to pitch for the Reds, while Garrett has a 3.65 ERA in 12.1 innings this season.

Baez signed with the Detroit Tigers this past offseason, meaning Garrett and Baez' feud can continue in the American League Central.
