Weather: Flash flood warning issued for parts of NKY

Update 6:10 p.m.: A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for parts of Northern Kentucky including Florence, Union, and Carrollton until 9:15 p.m.

Update 6 p.m.: A Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for Highland county until 6:30 p.m.

A a strong thunderstorm was located over Carrollton, Kentucky moving northeast at 35 mph. Forecasters warn parts of Switzerland, Carroll, Gallatin, Boone and Kenton counties could experience severe weather. Wind gusts up to 45 mph, hail, lightning, and very heavy rain are possible.

Heavy rainfall has hit parts of Greater Cincinnati Saturday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters warn showers and thunderstorms will continue through the afternoon and evening with the possibility of severe weather.

The main threat is damaging winds and penny-sized hail. Officials warn gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Hail may cause minor damage to outdoor objects.

Residents who are outdoors are encouraged to consider seeking shelter inside a sturdy building.
