Cincinnati weather: Wind advisory in place, gusts up to 55 mph expected

It's going to be a windy one today.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday for areas in and around Greater Cincinnati, including Hamilton, Clermont, Butler and Warren counties in Ohio and Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties in Kentucky.

Today, there will be southwest winds of 20-30 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph expected. The strongest winds will be between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The winds could blow around unsecured objects and could result in downed tree limbs and a few power outages. The weather service advises people to secure outdoor objects and use caution while driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle.

In addition to the wind, some showers are expected Thursday, mainly before 1 p.m. The day will have a high near 64 and an overnight low around 38. Temperatures will drop to highs in the 40s Friday before climbing back into the 50s through the weekend.

Duke Energy sent an automated text to customers Wednesday warning of the high winds passing through the region Thursday, and that "widespread outages are possible." According to the text, crews are ready to respond.

At the start of the day, Duke Energy's power outage map did not show any significant power outages for customers around Greater Cincinnati.
