Cincinnati's Millennium Hotel to shutter New Year's Eve: What to know about reservations

The Millennium Hotel Cincinnati will shut down operations on Dec. 31., displacing about 100 employees, according to the hotel's owner Millennium & Copthorne Hotels. The Cincinnati Enquirer, which is a part of the USA TODAY Network, reported this story.

The Downtown hotel is being acquired by The Port, which is studying the feasibility of replacing the hotel with a new 600-1,000-hotel and possibly expanding the Duke Energy Center.

The public development authority hopes to close on a contract to purchase the hotel for $36 million by early next year.

The Millennium Hotel in downtown Cincinnati is the largest hotel in downtown and boasts 872 rooms. The hotel dates back to the 1960's. It sits across the street from the Duke Energy Convention Center and is connected by a skywalk, one of the few remaining in the downtown area. Photographed Sunday April 28, 2019.

Until Dec. 31 the hotel at 150 West 5th St. will continue to operate as usual and honor all reservations up to its closing date, according to a press release.

The hotel’s sales team will be working to help groups and guests relocate to nearby hotels for reservations booked past the closure date, the release states.

The closing of the Millennium will bring to an end years of wrangling over what to do with the aging and outdated convention center hotel, which has been the subject of much controversy.

"The Millennium & Copthorne Hotels would like to thank its customers and colleagues for their support over the past 20 years,'' spokesman Daniel Rajaiah said in a statement.
