Cinco de Mayo 2023: $2 tequila shots, $3 tacos and other deals around Fayetteville

Cinco de Mayo is nearly here.

The holiday, which commemorates the anniversary of Mexico’s victory over the second French empire at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, brings festivities, food and drink to the Fayetteville area. A few events will celebrate the holiday, while tacos and tequila will be plentiful at a few restaurants, breweries and food truck parks.

Meal deals and discounted drinks on Friday

El Burrito: This Mexican restaurant, which opened its first restaurant on Buffalo Lakes Road in Harnett County in 2012, will offer a special menu of best-selling items as well as specials on house margaritas, cocktails, beer pitchers and imported beer at both locations. The Sanford location will also have live music.

Rookies: This Fayetteville restaurant known for its over-the-top Mexican food will have special menu items, music, giveaways and bouncy houses for kids.

Red’s Corner: Baja Dogs food truck will serve tacos at this Southern Pines beer garden, where margaritas will be offered all day.

Gaston Brewing Company: This brewer’s restaurant in downtown Fayetteville will serve $3 chicken, beef or carnitas tacos, $5 house margaritas, $6 tequila shots and $10 margarita flights.

Bright Light Brewing: California Taco food truck will serve its Mexican fare at this Fayetteville brewery, where Pinehurst country band Dark Horse will play live music.

Hooters: The Fayetteville location of this national sports bar chain will offer $2 El Jimador tequila and Bosscal mezcal shots, $5 Patron tequila shots, $5 Dos Equis beer, $5 margaritas and $12.50 margarita pitchers.

Cinco de Mayo events on Friday and Saturday

Dirty Whiskey: This craft cocktail bar next to Dirtbag Ales will host a 90-minute mariachi Zumba dance workout at noon Saturday. Tickets are $10 and include a beer.

Cooking4fitness: This downtown kitchen, which offers cooking classes for the health-conscious, will host a fiesta night at 6 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $8 for an evening of food, music and karaoke.
