Cinco de Mayo draws crowds to Mexican restaurants in Sacramento area

Cinco de Mayo amid the novel coronavirus pandemic had a different feel compared to previous years. The day celebrates Mexico's victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. It was popularized in American culture by Mexican immigrants. To celebrate, many enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine by going to their favorite Mexican restaurants. Before the COVID-19 outbreak and restrictions, Mexican restaurants would be packed with patrons. This year, Mexican restaurants across Sacramento saw long lines and wait times for pick-up orders. KCRA 3 tried to talk to restaurant owners and they were too busy to talk. Also, many restaurants are working with limited staff until they can get enough revenue to hire back workers.
