Cinco de Mayo is a relatively minor Mexican holiday Americans love to celebrate in major ways. Mariachis. Mountains of tacos. Rivers of tequila. The 5th of May is awash in festivities.

To that point, here's a batch of Cinco celebrations to put on your radar:

What is Cinco de Mayo?

It's easy to understand why some folks may think May 5 is Mexican Independence Day. But Mexican Independence Day is Sept. 16.

Cinco de Mayo marks the Mexican army’s victory over the more powerful French forces in the 1862 Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican war.

Still a reason to hoist a margarita, you say? Why not?
