Cinemas in the Sand returns to Pensacola Beach this summer

The Santa Rosa Island Authority invites families and friends, young and old, to unpack their beach chairs and blankets, dig their toes in the sand, and spend a Friday evening cozied up on Pensacola Beach while enjoying a free classic family film.

The 2023 Cinemas in the Sand movie nights return in June through October on select Friday nights, weather permitting, starting at sunset, from the Gulfside Pavilion on Casino Beach. The movies will be shown on a giant inflatable outdoor movie screen.

2023 Cinemas in the Sand Lineup:

  • June 23: “Finding Nemo” - This 2003 computer-animated Pixar film tells the story of an overprotective clownfish named Marlin (voiced by Mel Brooks) who, along with a forgetful blue tang fish named Dory (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres), searches for his missing son Nemo. Along the way, Marlin learns to take risks and comes to terms with Nemo taking care of himself.

  • July 14: “The Sandlot” – Set in the summer of 1962, this coming-of-age sports comedy film tells the story of a new kid in town who is taken under the wing of a young baseball prodigy and his rowdy team, resulting in many adventures.

  • July 28: “Moana” – This 2016 computer-animated, musical action-adventure fantasy film by Walt Disney is about an adventurous teenager who, with the help from demigod Maui (voiced by Dwayne Johnson), sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and save her people.

  • Sept. 1: “The Greatest Showman” – This 2017 biographical musical drama is based on the story and life of P.T. Barnum, a famous showman and entertainer, and his creation of the Barnum & Baily Circus and its star attractions. The movie stars actors Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson and Zendaya.

  • Sept. 15: “Wall-E” – This 2008 computer-animated science fiction film by Pixar follows a solitary robot on a future, uninhabitable, deserted Earth in 2805, left to clean up garbage. He is visited by a probe sent by the starship Axiom, a robot called EVE, with whom he falls in love and pursues across the galaxy.

  • Sept. 29: “Night at the Museum” – This 2006 fantasy comedy film stars Ben Stiller and tells the story of a divorced father who applies for a job as a night watchman at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City and subsequently discovers that the exhibits, animated by a magical Egyptian artifact called the tablet of Akhmenrah, come to life at night.

  • Oct. 13: “Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked” – This 2011 musical adventure comedy finds Dave, the Chipmunks and the Chipettes on a cruise ship, en route to the International Music Awards. But while playing around, the singing rodents accidentally go overboard and soon find themselves marooned in a tropical paradise, only to discover their new turf is not as deserted as it seems.
