Kevin and Marcel Wilson have danced on tour with Cher, Christina Aguilera, Janet Jackson, Donny and Marie Osmond and The Rockettes, and they’re currently preparing to stage a New Year’s shindig in Las Vegas that will cost a million dollars a ticket. So it shouldn’t be all that surprising that they’ve found themselves working on a circus.

The brothers are co-choreographing the latest edition of “Cirque Dreams Holidaze,” which is returning to the Oakdale Theater in Wallingford for three performances on Dec. 9 and 10.

The show, which has visited Connecticut regularly for decades, combines contemporary circus acts with pageantry, comedy, music and an overarching holiday theme.

The Wilson brothers were part of “Cirque Dreams Holidaze” last year as well — a transitional year in which three shows with the same title, helmed by three different directors, played different parts of the country. This year there are two concurrent “Cirque Dreams Holidaze” tours, both directed by the Wilsons. The Cirque Dreams company also produces a number of other circus entertainments that tour year-round. The shows have been visiting Connecticut for decades.

This year’s “Cirque Dreams Holidaze” has a new set design, Kevin says, as well as “new music, new choreography and new circus acts. It definitely has its own sound, its own aesthetic.” The specialty acts in the show range from silks to Cyr wheels, from juggling to acrobatics. Marcel stresses that “it’s a family show, with something for everyone. You can bring your kids or go on a date night or take a co-worker.”

The brothers came to the circus variety show format naturally.

“I did hoops when I was a dancer for Cher, and Marcel did stilts with Christina Aguilera,” Kevin says.

“The arts have always been in us. We have an appreciation for all kinds of art,” Marcel adds.

They wanted “Cirque Dreams Holidaze” to have a consistent tone and feel. “It feels cohesive,” Marcel says — no small trick when a show involves around 16 separate circus acts, dancing, music, pageantry and more.

“One of the things we love about Cirque Dreams,” Kevin says, “is that they have all these specialty acts but also a lot of choreography. We don’t want it to be like a cabaret but more like a Broadway show. It’s not act-to-act-to-act-to-act.”

Whereas last year’s “Holidaze” at the Oakdale told a story about Chris and Christie Claus’ quest to get taken off Santa’s “Naughty List,” this one has no plot or heavy narrative, just some key lead characters and a loose holiday theme.

The brothers think Connecticut will get “Cirque Dreams Holidaze” at a particularly good time. “At this point, it’s been out a little while and is settling, plus it’s closer to Christmas now,” Marcel says.

Kevin and Marcel say they’ve largely stepped away from performing in favor of directing and choreographing, but they did just find time to appear in a Netflix holiday film called “A Marriage Made in Heaven” when not working on a couple of live shows that will travel the world, as Kevin puts it.

They see the chance to work together on “Cirque Dreams Holidaze” as a gift, Kevin says.

“It’s been incredible,” he says. “Being siblings, growing up together in the Midwest loving Christmas, and now being able to create, dream and explore — it’s one of the biggest gifts.”

“Cirque Dreams Holidaze” has three performances, on Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 10 at 3 and 7:30 p.m., at the Oakdale Theater, 95 S. Turnpike Road, Wallingford. $29-$99. livenation.com.
