Cites hits home run for Villanova, in clash with Corning’s DeRosa

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WETM) – Horseheads grad Tess Cites hit her first home run of the season, in a clash with Corning’s Elyssa DeRosa and George Mason.

Horseheads grad Tess Cites hit her 1st home run of the season, to help Villanova past George Mason, on Sunday. Cites capped off a 3-5 performance at the plate with a 2-run homer in the 7th inning, thwarting the Patriots comeback and sealing the win. The blast closed out the afternoon slate at the Weiler Orthodontics Invitational in Harrisonburg, Virginia with a 10-7 win for the Wildcats. The 3 RBI day for the former Blue Raider standout accounted for one of her best performances at the plate this season. In the other dugout was Corning grad Elyssa DeRosa, who went 1-4 in the game with a run for the Patriots.

The Sunday matchup was the 2nd meeting of the local grads this weekend. DeRosa and George Mason bested Cites and Villanova on Friday, 6-5. In the meeting, Cites went 1-2 with 2 runs, while DeRosa tallied a run for the Patriots.

Next up, Cites and the Wildcats will head to Durham, North Carolina for the Duke Invitational. Nova’s 1st game is slated for Friday at 5 p.m. against Boston University. DeRosa and the Patriots will head to Wilmington, North Carolina for the UNCW Tournament, beginning Friday. George Mason will open with a matchup against Merrimack College.
