Citrus Bowl: Purdue football vs. LSU betting odds, time, TV

Purdue football will meet LSU in the Citrus Bowl.

The Boilermakers (8-5) won the Big Ten West and lost to No. 2 (College Football Playoff) Michigan in the conference championship game. No. 16 LSU (9-4) lost to Georgia in the Southeastern Conference championship game.

Jeff Brohm has left Purdue after taking it to a bowl game for the fourth time. The Boilers are 2-1 in those appearances, beating Tennessee 48-45 in an overtime thriller in last season's Music City Bowl. Brian Brohm, Jeff's brother and Purdue's offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach, will lead the Boilermakers in the Citrus Bowl.

Brian Kelly is in his first season as LSU coach. He previously coached Notre Dame for 12 seasons.

Boilermakers legend Drew Brees is lending a hand for this game, and has been allowed to recruit.

"I called up (athletic director) Mike Bobinski and the guys here and said, 'I’m here if you need me,'" Brees said. "I want to be a resource and I would love to work with these guys. They’ve given me that opportunity and I am going to take full advantage."

Brees, who played at Purdue from 1997-2000 and was twice a Heisman Trophy finalist before a 20-year NFL career, is the quarterbacks coach for the Citrus Bowl. After that, it's back to retirement.

Purdue season in review

The Boilermakers beat two teams who were ranked when they met: Minnesota and Illinois. Purdue suffered last-minute losses to Penn State and Syracuse. Michigan beat Purdue 43-22 in the Big Ten championship game.

LSU season in review

The Tigers handed Alabama its second loss of the season and they also beat a top-10 Mississippi squad. Their losses are to Florida State, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Georgia (50-30 in the SEC championship game).

Purdue missing several key players

Quarterback Aidan O'Connell (3,490 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, 13 interceptions), receiver Charlie Jones and tight end Payne Durham opted out of the Citrus Bowl to prepare for the 2023 NFL Draft. Jones and Durham represent 1,921 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns. Key defenders Cory Trice and Jalen Graham are also heading to the draft.

Also, Purdue defensive linemen Spencer Holstege, Branson Deen and Lawrence Johnson are in the transfer portal.

Austin Burton is Purdue's most experienced remaining quarterback, and T.J. Sheffield, with 39 catches and 3 TDs, is Purdue's top receiver; Devin Mockobee has rushed for 920 yards and 9 TDs; Mitchell Fineran has made 18-of-24 field goals and 40-of-43 PATs; Sanoussi Kane has 69 tackles; Jack Sullivan has 5.5 sacks.
