Citrus Heights garage fire destroys 8 cars, including classics, Sacramento Metro Fire says
Destructive flames threatening several homes in Citrus Heights decimated eight cars — at least some of them classics and one of them possibly nearly a century old — on Monday, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.
Firefighters arrived to Poplar Avenue just after 2 p.m. and saw raging flames destroying a detached garage housing multiple vehicles, Metro Fire officials said. A video showed the garage’s dark metal skeleton left behind as firefighters unleashed a barrage of water on the structure.
No one was injured, firefighters said.
Two Ford Mustangs from the late 1960s were wrecked in the fire, said Battalion Chief Parker Wilbourn, a spokesman with Metro Fire. He added that firefighters believed another car, which looked like a Ford Model A or T from the 1930s, was also heavily scorched.
It’s unclear how much monetary damage was done by the flames; that estimate will take time to calculate, Wilbourn said.
The fire is under investigation, he added.
