Wichita Falls' 4B Board will consider requests for sales tax money Thursday.

Wichita Falls’ 4B Sales Tax Corporation will meet Thursday to consider handing out tax money for various projects in downtown Wichita Falls.

Kirk Laney, the owner of the Picker’s Universe antique store, has requested an extension of time to finish work on a fire suppression system that is part of a $2.5 million project to add a bar and restaurant to the old building at 1000 Indiana Ave.

This will be the second time Laney has gone to the board for an extension on the $133,000 project the 4B Board initially approved in October 2019. Laney says the city will not give him a Certificate of Occupancy because material for the ceiling didn’t arrive on time, prices of flooring has led him to look for other options and the owner of a restaurant supply company died without delivering the product.

Downtown Wichita Falls Development, Inc. will ask for $35,000 for “streetscape” elements. The elements would include benches, trash cans, pole banners and pet-waste stations.

The board will also sign off on a handful of matching grants up to $5,000 each for renovation of old downtown properties. Those to be considered Thursday are:

  • 620 Ohio Ave. – McIntosh Building. Framework, lighting fixtures, conduits, outlets, etc. Request $5,000.

  • 711 Indiana Ave – Hoover Rogers law office. Drywall, glass panels, duct work, more office space, etc. Request $5,000.

  • 726 Scott Ave. – old Holiday Inn Downtown building. New window glass due to wind breakage. Request $5,000

  • 900 Eighth St. – Hamilton Building.  Replacement of grease trap for restaurant tenant. Request $5,000.

  • 600 Ohio Ave. – Marcom Products/Mayfield Events. New sewer tap. Request $915.38.

  • 1001 Eighth St. – Wichita Falls Baptist Church. Mortar repair, painting, etc. Request $5,000.

The 4B Sales Tax Corporation gets its money from a portion of the sales tax collected by the city of Wichita Falls.
