City of Abilene denies Starbucks rezoning request

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Three rezoning attempts for a Starbucks construction zone in Abilene’s Wylie area failed with the Abilene City Council Thursday morning.

Abilene neighbors protest new construction on Buffalo Gap Road adding ‘traffic, noise pollution’

Abilene’s ninth Starbucks coffee shop is currently being constructed in the 5300 block of Buffalo Gap Road next to a Golden Chick fast food restaurant, and failed Thursday morning in its third rezoning attempt.

Developers asked the Abilene City Council that its location be zoned to “general retail.” However, residential neighbors directly behind the venue have fought the change, citing noise pollution from the neighboring fast food restaurant’s drive-through menu speaker.

City councilmembers voted in opposition of the rezoning Thursday morning after several neighbors voiced their concerns.

Since the rezoning request has failed thrice, it is unknown what will come of the property at this time. BigCountryHomepage.com will report updates as they are made available.
