City of Akron to celebrate Buchtel, Hoban basketball championships with parade Sunday

Championships by the Buchtel and Archbishop Hoban high school boys basketball teams have earned the Griffins, Knights and the rest of the community a parade to celebrate a city first.

The city of Akron announced Wednesday that it will celebrate the title wins with a parade downtown on Sunday. The event is set to start at 2 p.m. on Main Street starting at Cedar Street and ending at Bowery Street.

This past Sunday in Dayton, Buchtel and Hoban each won Ohio High School Athletic Association state championships. It's the first time multiple Akron boys basketball teams won a state championship in the same season.

Hoban won the Division I state title Sunday night. Earlier in the day, Buchtel won the Division II state final, the first City Series boys basketball team to win a championship since 1986.
