City Council committee approves plan for Lake Shore Drive name change

Jean Baptiste Point Du Sable is credited with founding Chicago.

- Breaking news. A city council committee voted this afternoon to rename a portion of Lake Shore Drive after Jean Baptiste Point Du Sable. He's the Black man credited with founding Chicago. The name change would cover 70 miles of the outer drive from Hollywood to 67th Street. It must now go before the full council. Mayor Lightfoot has proposed renaming the Riverwalk for Du Sable and finishing Du Sable Park.
