City Council holds virtual hearings to address gun violence surge

Gun violence in Philadelphia has skyrocketed this year. As of Monday, 119 people have fallen victim to gun violence.

- Gun violence in Philadelphia has skyrocketed this year. Today, leaders address the increase in shootings across our neighborhoods as we just reported on yet another one. The city council's special committee on gun violence prevention focused on the rise in gun crimes involving teenagers and young children. They say the goal is to better protect minors and also deal with those who are breaking the curfew violation.

JOEL DALES: We do not want to bring them to police facilities. So we were talking about a community based location. And I believe it could be effective. I mean, we want to make sure that these kids are safe.

- 15 kids have been killed so far this year because of gun violence.
