🌱 City Council Returns Virtual + Triangle 'Endangered Spaces'

  1. The Durham City Council has decided to return to virtual meetings due to the increased transmissibility and spread of the COVID-19 Omicron variant. You can register now to speak during the meetings that will take place today and Tuesday. Future meeting registrations will be posted to the City of Durham website. (DurhamNC.gov)

  2. North Carolina's historic preservation division, Preservation NC has identified 'endangered spaces' in the Triangle. The identified spaces are home to predominantly Black and Latino residents and are at high risk of gentrification as new developments are increasing property value and run the risk of displacing lower-income residents.   3. Durham mother and son Nnenna and Pierce Freelon have received a Grammy nominations for their respective works. Nnenna Freelon is nominated for the sixth time in the category of Best Vocal Jazz Album, and Pierce Freelon is nominated in the category of Best Children's Album. (CBS17)

  4. As we are rounding out the year, the Criminal Justice Task force has left North Carolina with 125 recommendations to help eliminate inequities in the criminal justice system. The recommendations include a variety of legislation, and lays out a roadmap to help tackle the issues within the law enforcement system in North Carolina. (abc11)

  5. The City of Durham will be closing most city offices in observance of Christmas and New Year's holidays. The offices will be closed on Friday, December 24; Monday, December 27; and Friday, December 31. The Solid Waste Management Department will be closed for both of those Fridays, and will pick up delayed waste on Monday, December 27 and Monday, January 3. (DurhamNC.gov)

  • I don't know about you, but when I was younger Christmas Caroling usually meant visiting some type of long-term care facility to bring holiday cheer to residents. This Go Caroling Day, if you want to visit a long-term care facility NCDHHS guidelines do currently allow it, but make sure you call ahead to get the facility's ok.

  • All this week Beer Tooth Taproom is helping "Santa" wrap presents. Bring your gifts and enjoy some beers while they wrap up the presents for you. (Facebook)
